When your Palette contains the products that you want to work with, and you have applied an installation pattern to your flooring surface, you use the Painting Tools to apply the products onto the surface. These tools are described in this article.
When using the Painting Tools to apply tiles, there will be some automatic randomization when tiles are placed individually, painted in a row, or when using the bucket tool. This is to mimic how tiles are laid down in the real world; where they are not all identical to each other. There are slight variations in manufacturing, and unless the tile is direction-specific, the installer could rotate it one way or another.
Brush tool
The Brush tool is for applying a product to individual tiles. To use this tool, follow these steps:
- On the Flooring component tab, select the Brush tool:
- Move the cursor to the drawing area. The cursor turns into a paint brush.
- In the Palette field in the Quick Properties box, click to select a product.
- Move the paint brush to a flooring surface. A built-in aid will visually indicate where the selected product can be applied. Green = you're good to go, Red = the product is not compatible with the tile or installation pattern.
- Upon green, click once to apply the product to the selected tile. If you click and hold down the left mouse button, you can apply the product across multiple tiles in one go.
- The selected product has now been applied. To apply it to more tiles, repeat step 5.
- When you are finished, press the Esc key or move the cursor off the drawing area to release the Brush tool.
Bucket fill tool
The Bucket fill tool is for quickly applying a product to larger surfaces in one go. To use this tool, follow these steps:
- On the Flooring component tab, select the Bucket fill tool:
- Move the cursor to the drawing area. The cursor turns into a paint bucket.
- In the Palette field in the Quick Properties box, click to select a product, and pick a Type of fill:
Similar products – fills all tiles of a specific type. If a similar tile exists that is enclosed by another file type, it will not be filled.
Whole surface – fills up every tile in the flooring surface; regardless of type.
Replace – replaces all tiles of a similar type, regardless of whether they are contiguous, freestanding, or enclosed. - Move the paint bucket to a flooring surface. A built-in aid will visually indicate where the selected product can be applied. Green = you're good to go, Red = the product is not compatible with the tile or installation pattern.
- Upon green, click once to apply the product to the selected tiles.
- The selected product has now been applied. To apply it to more tiles, repeat step 5.
- When you are finished, press the Esc key or move the cursor off the drawing area to release the Bucket fill tool.
Line tool
The Line tool can be compared to drawing a chalk line between two points to apply a product. To use this tool, follow these steps:
- On the Flooring component tab, select the Line tool:
- Move the cursor to the drawing area. The cursor turns into a plus icon.
- In the Palette field in the Quick Properties box, click to select a product, and pick a Line mode:
Single line – is drawn as a simple, straight line, and paints all tiles that the line runs through.
Additive lines – lets you draw a line freehand, and paints all tiles within the line; quite similar to the functionality of the lasso select. - Move the plus icon to a flooring surface. A built-in aid will visually indicate where the selected product can be applied. Green = you're good to go, Red = the product is not compatible with the tile or installation pattern.
- Upon green, click and hold and draw a line to apply the product to the selected tiles.
- The selected product has now been applied. To apply it to more tiles, repeat step 5.
- When you are finished, press the Esc key or move the cursor off the drawing area to release the Line tool.
Gradient tool
The Gradient tool can be used for blending different flooring products to achieve rather artistic designs, particularly visible in installation patterns where small tiles are used. To use this tool, follow these steps:
- On the Flooring component tab, select the Gradient tool:
- Move the cursor to the drawing area. The cursor turns into a plus icon.
- In the Palette field in the Quick Properties box, click to select a product, and pick a Mode:
Linear – creates a gradient line in the direction the cursor is moving.
Radial – creates a gradient circle from the inside out.
Inv. Radial – creates an inverted gradient circle, i.e. from the outside in. - Move the plus icon to a flooring surface. A built-in aid will visually indicate where the selected product can be applied. Green = you're good to go, Red = the product is not compatible with the tile or installation pattern.
- Upon green, click and hold and slowly move the mouse to draw a line or circle.
- The selected product has now been applied according to the selected gradient mode. To apply it to more tiles, repeat step 5.
- When you are finished, press the Esc key or move the cursor off the drawing area to release the Gradient tool.
Picking up a product with the Picker feature
With the Picker feature, you can easily pick a product from a flooring surface and apply it to another. To do so, follow these steps:
- Select one of the painting tools (Brush, Bucket, Line, or Gradient).
- In the green Quick Properties box, check the Picker box. The cursor turns into a color picker.
- Click a product in your drawing that you want to pick up. The cursor turns into a paint brush, bucket or plus icon depending on your active painting tool.
- Move the cursor to another flooring surface and click once to apply the product with the painting tool that you had selected.
