Calculating waste is crucial to optimize material usage, minimize costs, and ensure accurate project planning and execution. The Flooring Extension supports calculating waste and waste reuse by providing tools to allow precise calculations and and strategies for minimizing and reusing waste.
These tools are located in the Product Tools component of the Flooring tab.
Calculated waste
In flooring, calculated waste is an estimated amount of flooring product that will be wasted during installation due to improper cut, damage, or additional cuts.
To use the Calculated waste tool, follow these steps:
- Go to the Flooring Extension tab
- Click Calculated waste in Product Tools
- Adjust the Cuts and Min. size as needed
Cuts controls the reusable waste calculation. This setting is the maximum number of cuts allowed per product.
Min. size controls the minimum product size that can be reused.
Gross column displays the amount of product needed to cover all surfaces after reusing cut product.
Net column displays the actual amount of product needed to cover all surfaces. It does not include the amount of wasted product.
Reused column displays the amount of product that can be reused.
Waste displays the amount of wasted product.
Waste reuse
Flooring waste reuse involves repurposing/recycling leftover materials from a floor project to reduce additional cost and waste. The Waste reuse creates a visual legend of the product's size and how it will be reused for your project.
To use the Waste reuse tool, follow these steps:
- Go to the Flooring Extension tab
- Click Waste reuse in Product Tools
- Click anywhere in the 2D drawing to place
