Tools to edit straight lines and shapes can be found in the 2D Line Tools section of the Tools component tab, or in the Tools section of the Wall Drawing component tab. Using tools from either of these tabs will work on objects placed from the other tab. For example, you can use the Trim lines tool from the Wall Drawing component tab on a object from the 2D Tools component tab.
Here we will use the examples from the Wall Drawing tab, but all tools will work the same in both component tabs.
Trim lines
To trim a section of wall, use the Trim lines tool.
There are two ways of doing this. Both are described below.
A. Trim one or more walls in a single step
Follow these steps:
- Select the Trim lines tool, under Tools on the Wall Drawing component tab.
- Move the cursor to the section of the wall you want to trim; hold the left mouse button down and cross over the wall. A red line is shown where you dragged your cursor, and a dashed red line marks the section to be removed.
You can drag the tool through multiple wall segments at once. - Release the mouse button. The wall segments disappear.
B. Trim one wall at a time
Follow these steps:
- Select the Trim lines tool, under Tools on the Wall Drawing component tab.
- Move the cursor to the end of the wall you want to trim; left-click and release. A properties box and a dashed red line are shown.
- Move the cursor along the wall to be removed (without holding the mouse button down) to mark the section to be trimmed.
- When you reach an adjoining section of wall and the word Intersection appears, click. The wall disappears.
Place your last click anywhere along the line to just trim a portion instead of to the nearest intersection, as seen below.
Meet two lines
By using the Meet two lines tool, you can connect lines in a corner.
Follow these steps:
- Select the Meet two lines tool, under Tools on the Wall Drawing component tab. A thin pink line appears at the end of the cursor.
- Left-click and release to attach the pink line to the end of one of the walls (the inside corner if you’re working with inner dimensions).
- Next, move the cursor to the end of the other wall (without holding the mouse button down). The pink line finds the correct angle and shows the angle to be generated between the two walls.
- Click. The walls are extended and now meet in the corner.
Double lines
Use the Double line tool to copy a thin wall – straight or curved – and offset it at a certain distance from the original wall. This tool does not work for regular straight walls that have any thickness.
- Place a Thin straight wall in your drawing from the Straight Walls section in the Wall Drawing component tab.
- Select the Double line tool under Tools.
- Move the tool to any location in the drawing area. In the properties box that appears, enter the thickness, which is the distance you want your new wall to be offset from the original wall.
- Move the tool towards the line you want to double. Two pink lines – a dashed and a solid – are shown on either side of the existing wall. The solid line represents where the doubled wall will be placed, and the dashed line shows the possible alternative position. You can switch between positions (inside or outside) by moving the cursor to the desired side.
- Click on the side of the existing wall where you want the new offset wall to be.
Explode to thin straight walls
If you have drawn solid walls with thickness and want to change them to thin straight walls, use the Explode to thin straight walls tool.
Follow these steps:
- Select the Explode to thin straight lines tool under Tools on the Wall Drawing tab.
- Move the cursor to one of the walls. All attached walls are marked with a red X.
- Click to explode the walls. You now have separate thin walls.
