First of all, the purpose of the 2D/3D-models used in CET is to help the designer to realize his or her imaginations concerning configuration of a specific product and how to combine different products to form a complete interior design. It is important to understand that the models created for CET are not meant to be used as a blueprint for production of individual products. This means that every little detail in a specific product must not be reflected in the models. For instance, all the small bolts, screws and nuts of a chair are not needed to represent the chair in CET. Invisible parts are also not needed or, to be frank, they are unwanted.
You might ask yourself: “Why are they telling me all this?” Well, CET can handle extraordinary large drawings with thousands of products. This would not be possible without removing unnecessary details. We will come back to this again in the performance section.
The purpose of Model Lab, which is a CET extension, is to help our clients and developers to import 2D/3D-data and prepare this data to be used in Configura’s software. It is also supposed to act as a central connection point when communicating with external 2D/3D-modeling software such as 3ds Max, ZBrush and AutoCAD.
