Use elevation views to create and work with views of products and other objects in your drawing. The Elevation Views window lets you review, rename, organize, and edit your elevation views.
Choosing an Elevation Tool
Elevation tools are available in multiple Essential Extensions. You can use any of these elevation tools to create an elevation of any object in your drawing. The tool you choose does not restrict you to objects from that extension.
For example, you can use the Essential Pallet Racking elevation tool to create an elevation of a conveyor, mezzanine, shelving, or any other object in your drawing.
Creating an Elevation
To create an elevation view:
- Open an Essential Extension tab and locate the Elevation tool in the Tools section.
- Select the Elevation tool.
- Locate the object you want to create an elevation of in the 2D drawing.
- Click next to the object to activate the selection box.
- Adjust the selection box to capture the side or angle of the object you want to display.
- Check the direction of the elevation arrow. The arrow indicates the direction the elevation view will face.
- Double-click the elevation arrow to open the elevation view.
The elevation appears in the Elevation Views window.
Working with the Elevation Views Window
The Elevation Views window displays the elevations in your drawing. It is divided into two areas:
- Elevation Views list: Displays the elevations in your drawing. Select an elevation from the list to display it in the viewing area.
- Preview area: Displays the selected elevation. Use the toolbar at the top of this area to work with the elevation.
Renaming an Elevation
You can rename an elevation to make it easier to identify.
- Locate the elevation in the Elevation Views list.
- Click the pencil icon next to its name.
- Enter the new name and reference.
The elevation retains its position in the list after it is renamed. Renaming an elevation does not automatically alphabetize the list.
Organizing the Elevation List
Elevations appear in the order they were created, even if you rename them.
To arrange the elevation list alphabetically by name, click Reset views order at the bottom of the elevation list.
This is useful when you have multiple elevations and want to find a specific view more easily.
Working with an Elevation
Select an elevation from the list to display it in the viewing area. The toolbar at the top of the viewing area provides tools for working with the selected elevation.
You can use the available tools to add markups and dimensions and prepare your elevation for printing.
Using the Elevation Toolbar
The toolbar at the top of the viewing area contains tools for navigating, annotating, and dimensioning your elevation. You can also control the visibility of certain information and transfer an elevation view to Paper View.
Dimension
Use Three-Click Dimension to add measurements to the elevation view. Dimensions help communicate distances and sizes when reviewing or sharing an elevation.
Zoom in All Objects
Use Zoom in All Objects to change the magnification of the elevation view to see the entire elevation within the preview window.
Position
Use Position to precisely move annotation objects within the elevation, such as text, lines, and other markup.
Line
Use Line to draw individual lines in the elevation view. Lines can be used to add visual references, mark areas, or clarify details.
Grouped Line
Use Grouped Line to draw multiple connected line segments. The connected segments are grouped together so they can be adjusted as one object.
Rectangle
Use Rectangle to draw rectangular shapes in the elevation view. Rectangles can be used to highlight or outline specific areas.
Text
Use Text to add text to the elevation view. Text can provide additional information, notes, or explanations.
Label
Use Label to identify objects or provide information directly in the elevation view.
Leader
Use Leader to add a leader line with text pointing to a specific location in the elevation, accompanied by text. This is useful for identifying a particular object, feature, or detail.
Show/Hide Floor
Use Show/Hide Floor to toggle the floor line in the elevation view.
Show/Hide Weight
Use Show/Hide Weight to toggle weight information in the elevation view. This is useful when working with racking layouts that include unit-load weight information.
Send to 2D View
Adds a copy of the elevation view to the 2D drawing space.
Snip to Paper View
Use Snip to Paper View to transfer a selected area of the elevation into Paper View.
- Select Snip to Paper View.
- Draw a rectangle around the area of the elevation you want to transfer.
- Complete the selection to add the captured area to Paper View.
This allows you to include elevation views in a printable document or drawing layout.
Reopening the Elevation Views Window
If you close the Elevation Views window, you can reopen it using the elevation arrow's Quick Property Box, or by double clicking on the elevation arrow.
- Select the elevation arrow in the drawing.
- Locate the option in the Quick Property Box to reopen the Elevation Views window.
