About the Unit Load Editor
The Unit Load Editor is used to create and edit the unit loads needed for your project. The benefits of using the Unit Load Editor include:
- Customize the type, dimensions, weight, and color of unit loads
- Apply unit load properties to your drawing
- Reuse and rename customized unit load properties
A unit load is a term that refers to the size of an assemblage in which a number of individual items are combined for storage and handling. For example, a pallet represents a unit load that can be moved easily.
The blue rectangle references a single unit load. In this rack, there are a total of 12 unit loads.
Types of Unit Loads
The Unit Load Editor provides unit load Templates that include pre-determined unit load types. Clicking the Add new button next to the Unit load drop down will open the Unit Load Templates dialog window.
Select the template you would like to add to your Unit Loads, then click the Use template button.
- APAC Pallets include standard JP and AU pallet types/sizes
- Cartons are normally used for packaging goods
- EU Pallets include standard European pallet types/sizes
- Intermediate Bulk Containers include 800-1250L sizes
- Luggage includes standard luggage sizes
- Misc. Pallets include miscellaneous pallets
- NA Pallets include North American pallet types/sizes
- Parcels consist of envelopes
- Polybags consist of standard polybags
- Totes consist of nestable and stackable storage containers
To select a pre-determined unit load, click the drop-down button and select the desired unit load.
Using the Unit Load Editor
To open, click Unit Load Editor in the Settings component section.
- The Unit load dropdown provides a list of unit loads.

- The + Add New allows selection of additional unit loads from templates

- The Properties section is where you can edit the width, length, and height as well as weight, load direction, and color. You can also use the Texture dropdown to add a logo or texture for further customization.
- The Preview Window allows you to orbit by right clicking and dragging to rotate the object. These objects reflect the current properties and will update with any changes.
- Apply to target will use the selected unit load and temporarily close the Unit Load Editor so you can make updates to the drawing. Press the ESC button on your keyboard to end the command and return to the Unit Load Editor. Save current will save any changes to the selected unit load. Save all will save any changes made to all of the unit loads in the unit load types area.
Applying Unit Loads in a Drawing
To update unit loads in a drawing, follow these steps:
- Open the Unit Load Editor.
- Select the unit load type to be applied.
- Click Apply to target
- Selected unit load changes must be saved before Apply to target is available
- Hover over the unit load object.
- The green outline indicates the selected object.
- Press the spacebar to toggle Spread Tool options within the Quick Properties box or select with the cursor.
- Left click to update the selected unit load(s).
Edit or Remove a Unit Load
To Edit, Duplicate, or Remove a Unit Load, select the Edit button within the Unit Load Editor. Unit Loads that are currently in the drawing will not be able to be removed, and the Remove option will be grayed out.
Saving Unit Loads
Unit Loads are reusable files which means you may save a Unit Load to use in future projects. Click the File button on the upper left corner of the Unit Load Editor dialogue window, then select Save as template. A file explorer will open prompting you to select where to save the file. Unit Loads will save as a .cmul file type, and will be saved to your CET Documents folder by default. The save location and the name can be modified if needed. To open a previously saved Unit Load, simply select the Open button from the File dropdown. Navigate to the location of the saved Unit Load then click open.
