Now you have the possibility to specify and use NCS colors to apply as finishes and materials. When NCS Extension is downloaded and installed you will be able to use it directly from Material Explorer. You can easy apply and also save your favorite NCS colors dirctly in your My Materials folder within Material Explorer for a quicker access and future use.
Some manufacturers already have the opportunity to use NCS colors today. Depending on the manufacturer the user can find the option available from differnt places such as the Scheme Manager or the quick properties box. The NCS colors will be applicable in different ways depending on the manufacturer's standards and decisions.
The NCS code is divided into three parts: blackness, chromaticness and base color. Blackness corresponds to how dark a color is, Chromaticness corresponds to how string the color is. Hue corresponds to the base color, which can be a blend of two colors. The blend is based on the percentage of the secondary color in the mix. Click here to read more about NCS
Getting Started with NCS Extension
- Download and install the NCS Extension from the Marketplace.
- Create a drawing in CET.

Open Rendering Tool Extension and click on Material Explorer.

When the NCS Extension is installed, the Material Lab button at the bottom of the Material Explorer dialog window will have a small arrow showing. When clicking on that, from the list, you will find the option to access the NCS Extension.
- Clicking on that will open a new dialog for you. From here you will find (see visual below):
- Search field, if you know the NCS number you can serch for it here. You can also type in the whole number or just parts of it or do a copy/paste. This works like a filter where:
- Grey letters indicates that you are on the way to get a valid NCS code.
- Black letters indicates the code is valid.
- Red letters indicates something with the code is invalid.
- NCS color field. This field will contain a list of all 2050 standard colors. (The S in front of the number indicates that it is a standard color.)
- Prewieiv color window showing the selected color.
- Add to my materials button - adds the material to your My Materials folder in Material Explorer for quicker access. This will not be created as a PBR material. Saves to: CET Documents > colorMaterialFolder > NCS as a .gm file.
- Use button - will turn your cursor to a bucket to apply the color in the drawing.
- Remove color button - select the color from the middle field or from your My Materials folder. Click on Remove color button. The color will also be deleted from the NCS fiolder saved on your computer.
- In the middle field your added standard and non-standard colors will be listed. If you remove/delete a color from the list or from your My Materials folder the color will not show here anymore.

The left field will show your NCS color folders: your My Materials folder but also folders from installed Manufacturer's Extensions using NCS colors.

From the search field you can also add non-standard NCS colors by typing their code and then add the color to My Materials.
