Building a Library begins with defining the scope of your content and choosing how you want to develop it. There are two primary options for building a Library: Self-Developed or Developed in partnership with a Configura Development Partner. Each path offers flexibility depending on your internal resources, technical skill sets, and project complexity.
- Self-Developed Library
If you choose to build your Library in-house, you'll need a dedicated internal team with knowledge of Excel, AutoCAD and extensive product knowledge. This approach gives you full control over your data structure, model creation, and material mapping. It also allows you to iterate quickly, customize user experiences, and manage your own publishing schedule. Self-development is best suited for manufacturers who have access to technical staff and are committed to maintaining the Library long-term. Configura provides help pages and videos to help your team succeed in this process.
Note: At this time, support beyond the Help Center articles and videos is not available.
- Developed by a Configura Development Partner
Alternatively, you can work with one of Configura’s verified Development Partners. These partners specialize in Library and Extension development and are well-versed in Configura’s standards, platform behaviors, and best practices. They can manage the entire build process, from interpreting your catalog data and creating 2D/3D symbols to testing and helping with publishing. This option is ideal if you lack internal resources or want to speed up your time-to-market with experienced guidance. Your team will still be closely involved in scope definition, content reviews, and approval processes, ensuring the final result reflects your brand and product functionality accurately.
Find a Development or Service Partner
Regardless of which path you choose, building a Library requires structured catalog data, 2D/3D models, material files, and collaboration across roles such as Project Manager, Subject-Matter experts, and catalog testers.
