This article reviews the different ways and steps to create a Template.
Creating a Template
To create and save a Template, follow these steps:
- Open a new drawing and update it to include your preferred settings.
OR - Open an existing drawing with your preferred settings already saved.
Then,
- Go to the File menu
- Click Save As Template
- Add a Template description
- Add a file name and save
You cannot add a Template to an existing drawing.
A dialog box will prompt you to choose to either set the new Template as the default or to cancel and return to your drawing. This only appears after saving a Template without a file in the Save Location directory.
The file extension for a drawing is .cmdrw and the file extension for a drawing with a Template is .cmdrwt.
Any drawings created from a Template will include the used Template file name with the information visible when you Open a drawing. To view this information, make sure the Info box is checked.
A 'Save As Template' keyboard shortcut can be added via File menu → Keyboard Shortcuts.
