Summary

The CET Install Helper provides tools to launch CET, clear files and settings, uninstall CET, as well as troubleshoot common issues with CET including startup problems, performance issues, and odd glitches.

Most users will only need to use Clean Start functionality, but the Install Helper also includes additional troubleshooting options that may be recommended by CET Support.

Accessing the Install Helper

To open the Install Helper:

1. Open the Windows Start Menu.

2. Type Clean Start into the Start Menu search:

The Install Helper contains the following options:

• Clean Start
• Diagnostic Start
• Extension Details
• Clear/Reset CET
• Uninstall

Clean Start

When should I use Clean Start?

A Clean Start is the first troubleshooting step we recommend when CET is:

• Not starting correctly
• Running unexpectedly
• Displaying unusual behavior
• Crashing
• Experiencing minor glitches

Running a Clean Start refreshes CET without affecting your drawings or settings.

How to perform a Clean Start

Before performing a Clean Start, close CET completely. Running a Clean Start while CET is still open will close the current session, which may result in the loss of any unsaved work.

1. Open the Install Helper.
2. Click Clean Start.

CET will launch, and startup may take slightly longer than normal as it starts from a clean state to help resolve temporary issues.

Diagnostic Start

When should I use Diagnostic Start?

Diagnostic Start should be used when CET Support asks you to collect additional diagnostic information.

This mode performs a Clean Start while enabling additional logging that helps our developers investigate issues such as:

• Slow performance
• Startup issues
• Extension problems
• Unexpected behavior

If you submit a Feedback Report after using Diagnostic Start, be sure to mention that CET was started in Diagnostic mode. 

After submitting a feedback report while in Diagnostic Mode, close CET and restart it normally. Diagnostic Mode is intended for troubleshooting and should not be used during normal operation.

Extension Details

The Extension Details window lets you:

• Turn extensions on or off
• Install First Aids
• Check extension versions
• Troubleshoot installed extension

Turning off extensions

If you rarely use an extension, turning it off may:

• Improve startup performance
• Reduce resource usage
• Help troubleshoot extension-related issues

To turn an extension off, click the toggle next to the extension name. When the extension is disabled, the toggle changes from blue to gray.

Local Uninstall of Extensions

The Uninstall button in Extension Details is intended for troubleshooting and only removes the extension from your local installation. Because the extension is still marked for installation on your MyConfigura account, CET will automatically reinstall it the next time you check for updates.

To properly uninstall an extension from your account:

1. Navigate to MyConfigura
2. Go to your Licenses page and click the Uninstall button for any unneeded extensions
3. Return to CET.
4. Select Help > Check for Updates

Clear/Reset CET

The Clear/Reset CET option allows you to remove different types of local data without reinstalling CET.

Only remove items you understand or that CET Support has recommended.

Cached Data

Removes temporary data created by CET and its extensions.

This can resolve certain issues without affecting your personal settings.

Installed Extensions and Updates

Removes all downloaded extensions and updates, returning CET to the version originally installed on the computer.

We recommend contacting CET Support before using this option.

Log Files

Deletes locally stored log files.

This option is typically only used when:

• Requested by CET Support

• Performing a complete reinstall

   

Preferences

• CET Settings

  Removes application settings such as:

  • Login settings
  • Units
  • Keyboard shortcuts
  • Photo Lab settings
  • Dimension settings
  
  

• Schemes

  This will remove all custom scheme settings you have created. 

  We recommend saving custom schemes before deleting them.

• Custom Component Tabs

  This will remove your Component Tab Configurations (i.e. deletes the folder at CET Documents\Preferences\64-bit\toolbox).

• Third-Party Settings

  Removes settings created by third-party manufacturers and extensions.

Catalog Data:

Removes all downloaded catalog data.

This option is rarely required and is generally only recommended when permanently uninstalling CET or when instructed by CET Support.

Deleting catalog data causes CET to download all catalogs again, which may take several hours depending on your internet connection and installed extensions.

Uninstall

Removes CET from your computer.
