Use the Part Tagging function in CET to add area tags to articles in the drawing, thus categorizing them. Tags can be used for identifying areas such as floors or departments, and your categories are shown as individual items in the Calculation dialog. This enables you to view separate price information for certain tags.
To add tags and create categories, follow the steps below:
From the Tools menu, select Part Tagging. The Part Tagging dialog box opens:
Select one of the existing Tag categories and add a New tag (as many as needed) within that category. If necessary, additional Categories (with New tags in them) can also be added. The list of categories and tags in the Part Tagging dialog can be adjusted by moving lines with the Move up and Move down buttons.
Leave the predefined tag categories. If you remove or change the names of these tags, your tags will not be available in any other program besides CET.- At the bottom of the dialog box, enter a Label and/or Description for the tag (see image below).
- Select one of the following methods to apply the tag:
- Tagging rectangle: Click and drag in the 2D view to draw a rectangle. The tag will be applied to all objects within the rectangle.
- Custom shape tag: Click multiple times in the 2D view to create a custom shape. The tag will be applied to all objects within the shape.
- Tag individually: In either the 2D or 3D view, click on each component that you wish to apply the tag to. You can also click the left mouse button and draw a box around the components you want to tag. Just as with the regular select rectangle, how you draw the box determines what is included:
– Drawing from top to bottom: all components that are enclosed in the box or touched by the box outline will be tagged.
– Drawing from bottom to top: only components that are fully enclosed by the box will be tagged. - Apply to selection: Choose this option to apply the tag to all selected components in either the 2D or the 3D view.
- Remove from selection: This button removes tags from currently selected components.
Multiple tags can be selected from the dialog by holding Ctrl and clicking on each tag, these selected tags will then be removed from the selected components.
Once the tags have been applied in the drawing area, you will automatically see the TAGS view mode at the bottom of the 3D view. Tagged components are framed by the color of the tag in question:
- To see the tag information, go to the Calculation dialog and open the Article View Settings. Select the Grouping tab and check the boxes for the relevant part tagging categories. Back in the Calculation, click the Refresh button. Information about each category is now displayed.
Tag Color
Change the tag color by clicking the color preview box visible on each tag row. This will open the Color dialog where you can change the color of the bounding boxes in the 2D and 3D views:
When you select one tag, the other tagged item’s boxes will change to grey. This helps you to see what you have tagged and what still needs tagging:
Tagging rectangle property box have several options, a couple worth mentioning are these:
- Line Style - Changing the line style on one tagging rectangle automatically applies the change to all rectangles within the same tag.
- Area Style - Sets a style on how area properties are displayed.
- Fill background - Fills the entire rectangle with your chosen Tag color in order to make it
easier to identify which areas of your drawing belong to a particular tag:
- Show area - Displays the area of the tag shape created, available only if tagged using Tagging Rectangle or Custom Shape Tag:
The Combine Option
The Combine option, which is displayed at the bottom of the Part tagging dialog box when you select a Tag Category, is a way of controlling whether components with different tags should be combined or not. For combined tags, identical components with different tags are treated as the same line items in the Calculation view (tags default to not being combined).
No Pricing
The No pricing option, which is displayed at the bottom of the Part tagging dialog box when you select a tag is intended to help when working with reconfigurations in the Reconfiguration tool. Checking this box causes all objects with that tag to have a price of zero. This is to reflect the scenario where customers do not have to pay for furniture they already have. The No pricing checkbox becomes available at the bottom of the Part Tagging dialog when a new tag has first been selected:
Here is a way to use this tool:
- Add a category called Reconfiguration.
- Make Tags for New, Existing, and Inventory.
- Select the No pricing checkbox for both Existing and Inventory tags.
In the Calculation, the items that are tagged Inventory and Existing have a $0 list price:
- Selecting a tagging rectangle in the drawing area is reflected in the Part Tagging dialog box by highlighting the corresponding tag, and vice versa.
- Double-clicking a tagging rectangle in the drawing area opens the Part Tagging dialog box.
- Tags created in a drawing or inside a block are now shared so you can use the same Tags on both. Additionally, you can use the Filter to show/hide objects in blocks as needed.

Click on New Category, and manually create the respective TAG1, TAG2, and TAG3.
