This article explains the commonly used terms in the Quality Assurance (QA) area.
- Product Rules vs Product Configurations
- Product rules are instructions that tell what can and can’t do, while product configuration is picking put and putting together parts to make the designs.
- In general, let’s say we are building a LEGO car:
- Product rules are like the instructions in the LEGO manual. They tell you how the pieces should go together so that your LEGO creation looks like it’s supposed to and doesn’t fall apart. These rules make sure you don’t put the wrong pieces together or build something that doesn’t work.
- Product configuration is like you deciding what kind of LEGO set you want to build. Maybe you want to make a spaceship with cool wings, a car with big wheels, or a house with lots of windows. You pick the pieces and put them together the way you want, if you follow the instructions (the product rules).

For CET Commercial Interior, by using Seating for example:
- Product rules are the instructions say one needs to use certain Glides type for the Seatings and not the others. It also only says only certain Color materials can be used for the Glides.
- Product configuration is creating a Seating arrangement with Glide type X and Y with Color material A and B respectively. The arrangement is created based on creativity, but still follows the rules from the instructions.

For CET Kitchen and Bath, by using 24-inch base cabinets for example:
- Product Rules dictate that you can’t choose a different width or add features incompatible with the 24-inch size, and that all materials and colors must fit together cohesively.
- Product Configuration involves selecting options such as the type and number of doors, material, finish, and any additional features like shelves or drawers to customize it to your needs.

For CET Material Handling, by using Shelving for example:
- Product Rules ensure that choices like shelf width, load capacity, and material fit together correctly, such as not exceeding weight limits and ensuring shelves match the intended use.
- Product Configuration involves selecting options such as shelf height, depth, material, and additional features like adjustable shelves or extra supports to meet specific storage needs.

Acceptance Criteria |

A prioritized list of user stories or features that have not yet been developed, usually maintained in an Agile development environment. |
Beta build |
A beta build is a pre-release version of software that is distributed to a limited audience outside of the company or organization doing the development, for the purposes of evaluation and to identify any bugs or issues before the final release. |
CET major release |
CET Release on either third Monday on May or November that introduced new features and interface change. |
CET minor release |
CET Release on either third Monday on May or November that does not involves interface change. |
Extension Review |
A review process for new extension to ensure they meet quality standards and integrate properly with CET software. |
Marketplace |
A platform where software extensions, add-ons, or applications can be distributed and accessed by users. |
Performance Testing |
Testing conducted to evaluate how a system performs in terms of responsiveness and stability under various workload conditions. It includes measuring response times, identifying bottlenecks, and assessing resource utilization |
Requirement/statement of work analysis |
The process of examining and interpreting project requirements or a statement of work to ensure clear understanding of scope, deliverables, and expectations. This forms the basis for test planning and design. |
Test plan |
A document describing the scope, approach, resources, and schedule of intended test activities. |
Ticket testing (Build Stage) |
Testing performed on specific issues or features that have been implemented and are ready for verification in a build environment. |
Ticket testing (Dev stage) |
Testing performed on specific issues or features during the development process, often in a developer's local environment before being merged into the main codebase. |
