Summary
For most users, CET startup can average around 2–5 minutes, depending on the number of installed extensions, catalogs, templates, etc.
If startup consistently takes significantly longer than expected or has recently become slower, review the recommendations below to help identify potential causes.
Quick Checks
Before making larger changes, verify that:
- You're running the latest version of CET.
- Windows is fully up to date.
- Your graphics and other system drivers are current.
- Antivirus and firewall exceptions have been configured.
Open CET Before Opening a Drawing
Why it matters
Many users launch CET by double-clicking a drawing file. While convenient, this combines CET startup time with drawing loading time, making the application appear slower to start.
If the drawing also encounters a loading issue, it may appear that CET itself failed to launch.
Best Practice
Launch CET using the desktop shortcut or Start menu first. Once CET has fully loaded, open your drawing from within the application.
This allows you to distinguish between CET startup performance and drawing loading performance, making it easier to identify where delays are occurring.
Turn Off Less Frequently Used Extensions
Why it matters
Every installed extension is loaded during startup.
Extensions you rarely use still contribute to startup time.
Best Practice
Turn off less frequently used extensions from the Extension Details menu:
- In CET, navigate to Help > Extension Details.
-
When Extension Details opens, you will see a list of installed extensions. Use the toggle next to the extension's name to Turn Off an extension:
- Once you are done, click Return to CET to get back to CET.
Extensions remain turned off until a drawing requires them. When needed, CET will typically load only the required components rather than the entire extension, which can help reduce load time.
Uninstall No Longer Needed Extensions
Why it matters
Removing extensions you no longer use reduces the number of components CET needs to load on startup.
Best Practice
If you no longer use an extension, consider uninstalling it instead of simply turning it off.
To uninstall an extension:
- Open your MyConfigura license page.
- Mark the extension for Uninstall.
- Run Check for Updates in CET to complete the removal.
