The Settings for Spec can be found on the Tools tab.
This dialog contains settings for operations and behaviors that users may want to modify to their preferences before beginning a project. It may be beneficial to modify these settings for different projects.
The dialog contains four tabs:
- Spec
- Storage Locations
- Price Information
- Search Path(s) Information
Click OK to save and apply any changes made in this dialog. Clicking Cancel will close the dialog without saving or applying the changes made.
Spec
Company Information
Name - saves the text entered into the field and automatically repopulates it for every spreadsheet. This field is not available for printing.
On Drag Operation
Prompt for Quantity - When enabled, Spec will provide a prompt for item quantity when dragging an item from the Catalog Information into the spreadsheet.
Option Part - When enabled, Spec will open the Part Specifier when dragging an item from the Catalog Information into the spreadsheet so the part can be optioned.
Export SIF File
Automatically Export SIF on Save - When enabled, a SIF file will automatically be created whenever the PMX file is saved. A drop-down list offers various SIF file formats. If there is a Custom export profile available, it will be listed here as well. The SIF file will be saved in the same folder as the PMX file and will include the entire contents of the project, ignoring any Column Filters. This tool is active by default. Click the checkbox to disable the automatic export function.
Export Added Charges from ProjectInfo as SIF Line Items - When enabled, charges that are entered on the Charges tab of the ProjectInfo dialog will be exported as line items on the SIF file. When disabled, the charges will won't be included in the project, any exports, or any reports.
Export Subtotal as SIF Line Items - When enabled, Subtotal lines that exist on the spreadsheet will be included as line items on the SIF file.
Auto Save Operation
Perform Auto Save - When enabled, Spec will automatically save a PMX file that is open. The number of minutes between which autosaves will occur can also be set. Keep in mind, this will take a bit of processing power and setting the minutes lower than 5 can cause perceived slowness in the program. This tool is active by default. Click the checkbox to disable the automatic save function.
Spreadsheet View
Disable Tooltip - Spec displays tooltips throughout the interface that can be disabled by checking this box. Keep in mind, the tooltips may be useful to display the entire contents of a cell when hidden, such as when working in a Compact View with Options displayed horizontally.
Automatic Load of Spreadsheet View on File Open - Spec allows for the spreadsheet view to be customized and will remember the view set by the user. When this setting is enabled, a PMX file will open with the view settings saved with the file, not the view set by the user. If you would like to save this view for future use, it can be saved as a User Template using the Adjust Columns tool.
Unique Manufacturer Codes
Spec provides some Manufacturer Codes to help enter commonly needed record lines with unique designations. When these codes are entered in the Manufacturer and Catalogue Code fields, Status Icons will show with the associated color flag. These lines will also be skipped when running Option and Pricing tools.
Specials: SPC - Standard product ordered with special modifications.
Inquiries: INQ - Transaction inquiry fee.
COM: COM - Customer's Own Material to be purchased.
Added Charges: CHG - Line-item charges.
The Unique Manufacturer Codes can be edited in the Settings dialog as needed.
Local Cache
Enable Local Cache - store temporary data on a local device for faster loading the next time the data is needed.
Logging
Show Errors - When checked, all error information will be included in the logs. It is strongly recommended to leave this checked.
Layout
Spec allows the layout of the panels and tabs to be customized. Once a layout is created, it can be saved for reuse. See the View Set Up article for more information about customizing the layout.
Save Layout - Click to save the current interface layout as a .xml file.
Load Layout - Load an existing .xml file for a saved interface layout.
Reset Layout - Restores the interface to the original layout.
High DPI - Click to enable a high resolution.
Storage Locations
When Spec is installed, the ProjectSpec folder is created in your system's Documents folder. This will contain folders for the various files used by the program. From the Storage Locations tab, the default save locations can be customized.
Click the + to expand each section and Change Location to browse and select a new folder. Keep in mind, if the location is set to a network location, access will depend on availability of the network connection.
Price Information
Rounding
Direction - Choose the direction of rounding from Normal, Up, or Down from the drop-down menu. When Normal is selected, any partial values less than 5 will round down to the nearest set Level value and any partial values greater than 5 will round up. When Up is selected, any partial value will be rounded up. When Down is selected, any partial value will be rounded down.
Level - Choose to round to the nearest Penny or Dollar from the drop-down menu.
Apply Rounding To - Click the checkboxes to apply the above rounding settings to the Customer and/or Dealer pricing columns.
Display Two Decimal - When enabled, the price percentage columns will display two decimal places instead of five. Turning on this feature will change the visual representation of the numbers on the spreadsheet but will not change the rounding criteria set above.
Taxable Information
New Record Taxable - When enabled, new records entered on the spreadsheet will be marked as taxable.
Hide Pricing Totals on Status Bar
Click to hide the individual pricing totals from the Status bar on the bottom left and and individual subtotals for selected records on the right of the Spec window.
Reprice Information
Prompt for Reprice of Record After Edit - When enabled, this will prompt the following message when a part is modified in a way that could affect the pricing.
Search Path(s) Information
Allows user to add network folder locations to be included in Spec searches. This can be used when shared reusable files are stored somewhere other than your local drive. When added, searches will look through those folders as well as your local folders. Keep in mind, search speed may be slower.
