Cut, copy, and paste will function as they do in other programs. They all use what's called the clipboard, which is a hypothetical "holding place" for items that have been copied or cut. Objects will stay on the clipboard even once they have been pasted in the drawing.
Cut
Cut tool will remove the selected component(s) from the current position and put it on the clipboard until pasted in a new location in the current or a new drawing.
To Cut, follow these steps:
- Select the component you want to cut by clicking it so that it is outlined in yellow or purple and the yellow snap points are visible.
- Right-click and select Cut from the context menu. The selection will be removed from that space and is placed on the clipboard for you to paste.
Copy
The Copy tool will place the selected component(s) on the clipboard and can be pasted elsewhere in the current or a new drawing.
To Copy, follow these steps:
- Select the component you want to copy by clicking it so that it is outlined in yellow or purple and the yellow snap points are visible.
- Right-click and select Copy from the context menu. The selection remains in position and is placed on the clipboard for you to paste.
Copy with Base Point
The Copy with Base Point tool lets you copy objects using a specified reference point. This is useful when you want to precisely position the copied objects by snapping from a specific point on the selection.
To Copy with Base Point, follow these steps:
- Go to the Edit menu and select Copy with Base Point, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + C.

Hover over the object or group of objects you want to copy. When the selection is highlighted in blue, click to select it.
- Click the point on the selected objects that you want to use as the base point (For example, corner of column)

Move the cursor to the desired location and click to place the copied objects.

Continue clicking to place additional copies, if needed.
- When you are finished, press Esc on your keyboard, or move your cursor outside of the drawing area to exit the command.
Note: Both Single Select and Group Select are supported when selecting objects with the Copy with Base Point tool.
Paste and Repeat paste
Paste is used in conjunction with Cut or Copy. Once you have cut or copied a chosen component or group, it is on the clipboard and it can be pasted in another location in the same or a new drawing.
To Repeat Paste, follow these steps:
- After you have copied or cut components in your drawing, right-click in the drawing view and select Paste from the context menu.
- The contents of the clipboard will be on the end of your cursor. Click to place the objects in the drawing. The components will remain on your cursor. Continue to click to place more copies.
- Once you are finished, hit Esc on your keyboard, or move your cursor outside of the drawing area to escape the command.
Paste selection
Paste selection is a tool that allows you to skip using the Copy or Cut tool, and moves right on to the Repeat paste function. This tool is found in the Edit menu, or you can use the keyboard shortcut A.
To Paste selection, follow these steps:
- Select the objects you want to copy.
- Hit A on your keyboard, or select Paste selection from the Edit menu.
- The selected objects are on your cursor and you can paste them wherever you would like.
- The contents of the clipboard will be on the end of your cursor. Click to place the objects in the drawing. The components will remain on your cursor. Continue to click to place more copies.
- Once you are finished, hit Esc on your keyboard, or move your cursor outside of the drawing area to escape the command.
Crop
An easy way to remove unnecessary components from the drawing area is to use the Crop feature. This means that you select the components in the drawing area that you wish to keep and then remove the rest.
To Crop components, follow the steps below:
- Select the components in the drawing area that you wish to keep.
- Go to the Edit menu and select Crop. All components that are not selected will be removed from the drawing area.
