This article explains how to convert a symbol that is placed using the Commercial Interiors Library (CIL) catalogue data to a CET Catalogue Browser symbol.
In order for the CIL symbol to convert, there must be catalogue data from the manufacturer in the Catalogue Browser extension.
Converting the CIL symbols to Catalogue Browser symbols will maintain options selected from the Part Specifier while reducing the file size, as CIL symbols save the data in the drawing file versus referencing the catalogue file saved on the cloud, not the drawing file.
Selecting the Convert to Catalogue Browser Symbol Tool
The tool is found on the main Component Tab of the Commercial Interiors Library extension.
- Select the Main Component Tab for the Commercial Interiors Library extension.
- Scroll to the Import or Export area of the Component Tab menu area.
- Click the Convert to catalogue browser symbol button.
Using the Convert to Catalogue Browser Symbol Tool
- Either select the symbol in the drawing or place the manufacturer symbol from the catalogue data in the Commercial Interiors Library using either the Catalogue Reader or Search tool found on the Main Component tab or their individual tabs.
-
- Double-click on the Part Number to add options using the Part Specifier or
- Click and Drag the Part Number into the Drawing View without adding options
-
- Click the Convert to catalogue browser symbol button - the Convert to catalogue browser symbol dialog window opens
- All parts with enabled checkboxes can be converted to a Catalogue Browser symbol
- Part Numbers greyed out do not have Catalogue data to convert to in Catalogue Browser OR the Catalogue Browser data is turned off- uncheck the Show invalid symbols checkbox to only see convertible symbols
-
- PLEASE NOTE: If the Part Numbers are greyed out, but it is known that the Catalogue Data is available, the data can be turned on in the Catalogue Details Dialog window.
-
3. Click the Convert button to convert parts
-
- Prior to the symbol conversion a Warning Dialog appears to notify that some options may be lost in the conversion process potentially affecting item price
- Parts converted to Catalogue Browser symbols will turn green in the Convert to catalogue browser symbol dialog window- the extension does not have to be installed to have catalogue data in Catalogue Browser
4. If you place additional symbols into the drawing and wish to convert them, simply click the
Refresh button in the Convert to catalogue browser symbol dialog window to show the new parts
5. An object can also be located in the drawing by clicking the Location Pin in the dialog window- CET
will zoom in on the object in both the 2D and 3D drawing views
Now that the symbol is converted, when selected, it will generate a Quick Properties box with the properties that can be selected for the Catalogue symbol. If finishes were selected prior to conversion, they will appear here. If finishes were not selected prior to conversion, available finishes can be applied using standard practices.
